VH1 Classic Europe

Recommended Posts

Keep It Classic nowa pozycja w ramówce od 6 października. Nie będzie już weekendów tematycznych.

Mariah Carey i „Fantasy” z 1995 r. w paśmie z muzyką lat 80.

Większość pasma to lata dziewięćdziesiąte i dwutysięczne.

Zmianie ulegały tylko nazwy pasm, jednak playlista zawierała cały czas te same utworzy.

Teraz jest program "We Are  the 80s" do 13:00 według EPG. Może to ma związek?

W Play Now jest ta sama wersja  VH1 Classic i to samo drugie logo. Sam nie potrafię wrzucić zdjęcia na forum.

Maybe MTV will appear instead of VH1 Classic on MTV Europe's birthday (on August, 1st). But it's my prediction, I didn't see the official information about this rebranding.

By the way, VH1 Classic Europe is a last version from VH1 Classic's channels. Other versions (britain and american) were closed earlier.

The channel must be withdrawn from the UK into another country. Otherwise, the clips base will not get better than now. British VIACOM can't make quality music channels at last decade.

I just wrote that there is some visible improvement. Not sure what happened, but I'm watching VH1 Classic for more than a week for nearly 24/7 and playlist has been (in my opinion) definitely widened. I see much more clips than it was maybe a year ago or more. Back then in 2-3 days I could just watch all clips that they were playing. Now of course there is still some "heavy roration" playlist of strong staples, but beside these clips there are different additions. I would say that in every 2 hours circa 1-2 clips are not from basic playlist (eg in 90s/00s blocks I saw Delerium - Silence, Tim Deluxe/Sam Obernik - It Just Won't Do, iio - Rapture or even Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky, in 80s eg Genesis - Turn It On Again, The Smiths - Panic, Madonna - Crazy For You or The Pretenders - I Go To Sleep). After more than a week of extensible watching I'm still seeing "new" videos.

I would also go on to say that at least for VH1 Classic - it's good that it comes from UK (if it is still coming from UK, Brexit might have an impact on broadcasting MTV channels in Europe), because especially eighties in UK were very rich in good music acts, that influenced western European countries or even were strong enough to made impact on US market. Currently a lot of good British music from 80s is present and taking VH1 Classic outside UK will surely change that to worse.

Weakest parts of current VH1 Classic for me are:

- blocks with 00s music. These acts in my opinion cannot yet be considered as a classics at all, mixing decades making this messy, 80s and 00s are too far away and differs so much... I'm considering VH1 Classic as a channel for playling real classic tunes. 00s and 10s should be present rather in MTV Hits or maybe basic version of VH1. For example Tim Deluxe, even if that track was nice (and the video was hot), for me does not fit to my understanding of "classic" tune, playing this right beside ABBA, Genesis or Stevie Wonder feels just wrong

- a lot of mistakes in titles, which brings some feeling that nobody in MTV really cares, it is considered as an automated music box, without any "human touch"

- audio quality could be improved, this is a music channel - audio quality should be on the top of priorities

Best things about VH1 Classic for me are:

- no commercials

- broadcasted in 4:3, most of videos, which VH1 Classic plays, were shoot this way, quality of videos from MTV archives is really decent - i like to see videos in their most original form (eg mentioned The Smiths - Panic on YouTube has got extremely bad, blurred and over-compressed video quality, it is a pain for the eyes to watch this; at the same time on VH1 Classic it was great or at least as great as it could be for a SD content)

I don't believe that eventual extension of VH1 Classic playlist will be a long lasting thing. MTV in Europe in last ~15 years has never improved anything deliberately. Any change for better was a clear accident, in most cases effects were destroyed very fast.

I recommend to take a look, if somebody likes classic music, 80s and 90s blocks are better examples, for 00s block somebody might be dissapointed...

PS: MTV management IMHO failed badly, having so rich archives, they could easily start something like iTunes or Netflix for music videos. If they would do that let's say 10 years ago, now they could be bigger than YouTube. Anyway now I would still be eager to pay for service with original music videos in quality as close to original as possible (without video/audio bitrate tradeoffs), not so crappy as most of oldies in YouTube. And without any other crappy content, influencers, pranks, virals etc. But that doesn't seems to happen anytime soon.

I disagree with you. What about german Modern Talking, Bad Boys Blue; austrian Opus, etc? They were very popular too. In my opinion, if this is vh1 classic EUROPE, then this channel should show all popular european music firstly. Earlier, this channel showed Modern Talking, Bad Boys Blue and many other perfomances thanks to polish command with Jacek Fudala (fix me, if I wrote this name with mistakes). I would like the same musical variety now, especially when the channel belongs to Pay TV.

About 00s: I like 80s and 90s more than 00s, but they’re doing right, because it’s old music too (as of 2020).

I remember closed MTV Adria. I watched this channel in 2016-2017 very often. In 2015-2017 they increased their musical base in Party Zone, Chill Out Zone, Alternative Nation. Many videos from these blocks have bad quality on youtube, some of these clips are not available on the internet. Unfortunately, they decide to close this channel...

P.S. In my opinion,  two best VIACOM's music channels from last 5-6 years were : VH1 Polska (before october 2015) and MTV Adria (before july 2017)

Well... to be honest, I'm not a fan of Modern Talking etc. That's why I'm also happy about current musical direction of VH1 Classic ;) Yes, I know, that's selfish, sorry ;)

I feel that most of European acts of eighties, eurodisco, italodisco and eurodance later in nighties had bigger impact on eastern countries. In Poland and Russia the popularity of Modern Talking, Fancy, Boney M, Savage etc. was pretty high. At the same time, despite that we have listened to this, I don't feel that these acts have really big international impact (eg Mondern Talking quickly faded away from charts in western Europe after ~5th single) and honestly - beside Poland, Russia and Germany/Austria - they are now highly forgotten. Don't know why, and it's a topic for a different, separate discussion...

Putting a big pressure on what was known for us, will make at the same time VH1 Classic not much interesting to the rest of Europe. I think that differences are too significant and the best solution would be to launch a separate local version.

However I fully respect your opinion and hope that there will be changes in the direction that you will like :) This is rather a matter of taste, memories, etc. ;)

PS: Samantha Fox right now :)

Oh - and that is a good point. Yes - 00s are old, that's absolutely true. I just feel that "old" doesn't mean "classic" at the same time.

Even with that Tim Deluxe example - it's an old track, that's true, it has got now 18 years from the release date. At the same time, it is not recognized as a significant international chart topping hit. 00s are the point, where music hits started to be easily forgettable and were no longer making into music history in any significant way. Eg The Rolling Stones - Satisfaction, Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, Guns 'n Roses - November Rain, David Bowie - Let's Dance, Tina Turner - The Best, Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms. All that are just obvious standards. Something that must to be known by any music fan. From 00s it is getting harder and harder to recognize and remind to myself of any such remarkable moments in music. Britney Spears? She was not as big as Madonna and will never be. And from 10s - it's even harder, from eg from 2010 right now I cannot recall completely nothing, like there was no music at all :)

Additionally US market went completely separate ways from European, in fact it is even no longer possible to see any hit of a real international scale. 6ix9ine is a hammer in US and not much a sensation in Europe. Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100 is now totally a different thing, like an other world. Picked randomly Hot 100 from 3rd of September 1988: https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1988-09-03 - top 10 are pretty much international hits, known mostly until this day all around the world. And current Hot 100 top 10 is US only.

I recall an interview with George Michael, where he said something, that firstly was for me a little bit of an exaltation/snooty. But after some consideration, he was right... He said, that he would like to be remembered as "a great singer/songwriter from a period of time, of which I don't think we will be seeing again. I don't think that youth culture will produce people like myself, Madonna or Prince. I don't think it's gonna do that anymore. I think it's too fragmented now. So I'd like to be remembered as one of those last kind of big stars, in the sense, that there was a certain glamour to it."

A greedy and corrupted music industry started at the dawn of Millennium to switch from an old way of promoting music - talents, to create as much music acts as possible, autotuned and faked. These are no longer real musicans (in the mainstream), but rather an entertainers, of which some of them sometimes can sing. So George was right, really there won't be nobody as big as him, as Madonna, as Queen with Freddie, as Prince, as Michael Jackson etc.

And now finally going back to VH1 Classic: because of all that above, I don't feel that 00s are classics, they are rather getting old and slowly fading away without real significant great moments. With a lot of "stars", a lot of tracks, but nothing that would be remarkable and remembered for the next decades. And 10s were even worse.

And that's why I'm feeling that VH1 Classic is not the best place for playing 00s music, which started to be more a product than an artistic manifesto. Of course it was always a business, but after 2000 I feel that it became way too insane, twisted and torn apart from the soul of making music. I would rather put 00s and 10s in the main VH1.

But that are just my private thoughts. MTV will anyway do what they will like to do, probably something stupid, as usual :)

The best solution would be "MTVflix" :) Where all music videos from all around the world are in one big online archive. And we would just select what music we would like to see and hear today. I've got a mood for rock classics - select 80s, 90s, rock, pop rock and voila :) In the other day I would like to dance: select dance, eurodance, eurodisco, italodisco, 80s, 90s, 00s - and push play. Something that YouTube is trying to achieve automatically, but failing because of too much crappy content everywhere. The way as it currently MTV tries to broadcast linear channels, it is a road to nowhere.

Thanks for sharing your input and thoughts with us ;)

O przepraszam, sprostuję. Ten "kawałek" to jeden z większych hitów lat 80. Dotarł do miejsca 1 w UK , Kanadzie, Holandii, Norwegi. W hołdzie jego pamięci podczas at The Brits 2017 Chris Martin (Coldplay) wybrał właśnie ten a nie inny utwór.

Aż miło popatrzeć i posłuchać. Żeby tylko tego nie s&*[email protected]# :/
